“The Big Fat BG Christmas”: A Lesson in Togetherness
Christmas is a time for family, but what happens when that family is huge, multinational, and in complete chaos? The high schoolers of Britannica Park School answered that question with their original production "The Big Fat BG Christmas" – a show that had us laughing until we cried, while reminding us of the most important truths.
The Plot
The story took us into the home of one big, loud family, torn between Bulgarian traditions and the American way of life. Generational differences, language barriers, and petty arguments seemed insurmountable – until the "mastermind" of the operation stepped onto the stage: the grandmother.
With plenty of humor and a pinch of cunning, she began setting up a series of pranks on her loved ones. Her goal? To push them out of their comfort zones and force them to work together. Through a series of comic situations, the characters – and the audience – came to realize that despite all the misunderstandings, the meaning of the holidays comes down to just one thing: being with the people closest to you.
Behind the Scenes
The most impressive thing about "The Big Fat BG Christmas" wasn't just the final result, but the way it was achieved. Our high schoolers took full ownership of the project:
They built the characters and dialogue themselves, reflecting the reality of today's multicultural society.
The students organized their own rehearsals, learning how to bring every participant's ideas into sync.
From costume choices to set design, every detail was the result of their own creativity and hard work.
More Than Theater
"The Big Fat BG Christmas" may have told the story of a family that struggles to understand one another, but the process of creating it revealed another family – our students – working in perfect harmony.
Congratulations to everyone involved! You proved that when you have vision and work with heart, magic happens.
