School is the place where children spend most of their time, which implies an individual approach to each child. We appreciate our students’ efforts and abilities as well as their individual ways of learning.
The elementary school program for students in grades 1-4, created by the BRITANICA Park School team, provides a healthy, family-friendly environment. It supports children in acquiring knowledge, developing learning skills, gaining and sharing experiences, stimulates generation of ideas. The program relies on experiential learning, developing problem-solving and decision-making skills. The environment encourages students to discover the world around them, to ask questions, as well as to make sense of the activities in their daily lives.
The holistic approach used by our teachers puts the children at the center of the learning process and accepts the differences of each one of them as exceptionally valuable. The diversity of their unique personalities contributes to a greater variety of ideas and experiences. The school’s positive environment creates conditions for building relationships of respect and tolerance between children, which supports their learning.
In order to discover the world with curiosity, children create their own projects. Project-based learning allows children to expand their knowledge on various topics, as well as to develop their creativity and imagination. Working with other children in a team builds relationships of mutual respect and tolerance. Various projects, such as creating illustrations, making models, writing different endings of stories, writing plots, while listening to soft background music – help build a more global understanding of the topics studied. These activities also allow each child to develop his or her own way of learning, whether it is more kinesthetic or visually supported for example.
Our children learn about the world around us through real experiences and experiments. For instance, they grow and take care for vegetables in the garden on the green roof of the school. This experience helps them to formulate meaningful questions, arouses their curiosity and connects them with nature. Thus, they also learn about healthy food and lifestyle.
Special attention is paid to the physical activity of children in elementary school, as it provides a basis for building a healthy lifestyle from an early age. Playing sports and being involved in various game activities, they develop perseverance, discipline, teamwork skills and strive to achieve a certain goal. During the school day, children spend their breaks playing outside. The school organizes various sports clubs, such as football, dancing, badminton, volleyball, tennis, rhythmic gymnastics, and aikido.
The main subjects include: Mathematics, English, Bulgarian language and literature, Man and society, Nature studies (3-4 grade), Music, Visual arts, Information technology, Physical education.
School day
The school day starts at 08:00 and ends at 16:30.
Meals and breaks
We believe that students should eat healthy and spend their breaks outside. Healthy eating and enjoying free time outside are important parts of building a healthy lifestyle. The school cafeteria prepares breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks. Students use their individual accounts, which are controlled by their parents. Children are also allowed to bring their food from home in a lunch box.
Homework
Homework usually involves reading, spelling words, or short Math assignments. Independent work at home may involve a variety of tasks that develop children’s ability to research information or stimulate their imagination. Homework contributes to the development of learning habits.
Daily medical examinations and consultations with a psychologist and a speech therapist are provided. All this contributes to the creation of a safe and secure environment.
